Channelization Task Force ok'd
by DENISE MARTIN
The County Board last week approved a recommendation from the Chisago Lakes Lake Improvement District Board to appoint a task force to evaluate a plan connecting North Center Lake with North Lindstrom Lake. In the LID Board report to the county commissioners it was explained that forming a feasibility task force will “provide substantial stakeholder input to the feasibility of the ...channel restoration.” The vote by the LID Board seeking the task force to be appointed was 4-0; with Leigh Hugo, Al Singer and Lou Sibik absent. The goal of the task force will be to “provide information and recommendations to the County Board to make an informed decision regarding proceeding with additional project activities.” The county commissioners will appoint an unidentified number of volunteers to the channel restoration feasibility group. There was no discussion on the channelization as the task force idea was supported. The feasibility group’s work schedule and deadline for a report was also left open. The Chisago Lakes LID directors have done some preliminary channel layout design working with engineers on a channel route between North Center Lake, (by Blue Waters trailer park), west to underneath County Road 20 and into North Lindstrom Lake. The LID has contracted for expert consultants and fieldwork over the last couple of years. Surveying, hydrologic evaluations and wetland elevation data has been gathered anticipating many environmental questions if the two lakes are re-connected.
