Chisago Lake Township annual meeting details
by JEFF NORTON
The annual Chisago Lake Township meeting smoothly passed last week as every vote was unanimous and there was only discussion and jests among the handful of attendees.
Matt Wikelius was nominated as the moderator for the meeting and he ran it along with township clerk Eleanor Trippler. The proposed 2014 levy saw a miniscule decrease from $883,500 to $883,000. The two biggest changes in the levy came in the road blacktop and building fund budgets. The through-road blacktop budget was $100,000 in 2013, but will be $50,000 in 2014 while the building fund will increase from $30,000 in 2013 to $80,000 in 2014.
The township proposed the maximum allowed $10,000 for contracts for recreational and health services and it was approved unanimously. The Refuge Network, Family Pathways, Fairview Lakes Home Caring and Hospice, the County Ag Society, and Baby Blanket were among the organizations that gave short presentations seeking funding at the meeting.
The gopher bounty remained the same -- $2 for the front feet of pocket gophers and $1 for striped gophers. After some tongue-in-cheek arguments, the figure stayed pat. At the end of the meeting, the votes were tallied for the treasurer position. Treasurer Myron Anderson ran unopposed and received all 27 votes that were cast.
