6/13/2013 11:46:00 AM Come to North Branch this weekend;
Harmony in the Park begins this week
North Branch is hosting a really neat event this weekend. The 5th annual Red Bull Military Appreciation Day takes place this Sunday in Central Park. What is Military Appreciation Day? It is a venue filled with military vehicles and memorabilia that many of us have never seen before. There is also a classic car show in the park. There are kids games as well as blow up jumpers too. There will be silent auctions and food vendors on hand. There is no admission and the public is invited. Come on out, it promises to be very cool. It runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
They say that summer has arrived. I was giggling to myself as I mowed my lawn this weekend while wearing a long sleeve shirt, a sweatshirt and a pullover jacket. Oh, don’t forget the gloves I was wearing. I know, I know, it is cyclical. I get it. But, I can’t remember a time where we had back to back sunny days, much less a whole day of sunshine. The weather really seems to be getting people down lately. I don’t know what the answer is, but one thing is for sure, we need to see the sun. My winter burn is starting to look grey..
I have to apologize for not mentioning last week that this is the official kick off of Lindstrom’s Harmony in the Park concert series. I failed to mention the White Side Walls were starting the ever-popular music series. This year the concerts are filled with wonderful musical acts such as Elvis (June 19), Hard Days Night, Bob and the Beachcombers, Ladies of the 80’s and Country, and Duece. Those are just a few and I will remind you week to week who will be playing. Remember to bring your lawn chairs or a blanket, the concerts are in Lions Park and begin at 6:30 p.m. It is such a great time, so relaxing and nice to visit with friends on a summer night.
Remember tonight is Fairview’s grand opening of the new Orthopedic Center. The open house runs from 4 to 7 p.m. and will feature tours of the facility as well as seminars, refreshments, gifts, drawings for Twins tickets, gift cards and more. Come out and welcome our new friends at St. Croix Orthopedics to the neighborhood.
This Saturday, the great Veterans of the American Legion Post 272 will be at Moberg Park in Chisago City. They will be accepting your tattered and used flags (American and anything else). They are also selling American flags at very reasonable prices so you can replace your old or tattered flag. The Vets will be at the park at 9 a.m. and your used flags will be part of a flag retirement ceremony held at Big Marine Veteran’s Rest Camp.
The Chisago Lakes Library has something really neat for your youngsters. On June 27, they will be holding a Stuffed Animal Sleepover. Your child is encouraged to bring his or her favorite stuffed animal or doll for a sleepover at the library. There will be snacks and story time before your child tucks their stuffed animal or doll in for bed. Come back on Friday to learn what sorts of mischief the animals and dolls have gotten into. It is a great adventure and is ideal for children ages 3-5.

Happy Fathers Day to all fathers this weekend. Being a dad is one of the greatest jobs in the world. While mothers are without a doubt the most important, being a dad is one of the most influential positions a person can hold. Whether you believe it or not, you are so influential to your children. You might think they are not paying attention, but they are. Thank you for doing a great job.
