7/29/2013 3:46:00 PM Sherwin Johnson killed in July 28 crash
A man, who just two weeks ago rode as the Grand Marshal in the Karl Oskar Days parade, was killed Sunday in a car-motorcycle crash. Sherwin Johnson was doing what he was known for doing in this community-- he had finished volunteering for the Chisago Lakes Triathlon serving as one of a handful of mobile race route supervisors. The driver and passenger of the car involved in the crash were from Columbia Heights and had just competed in the Triathlon, police said.
Lakes Area Police Deputy Chief Bill Schlumbohm said that Johnson suffered serious head trauma when his Goldwing motorcycle hit the side of a 2008 Subaru Impreza. Both vehicles were eatsbound on Highway 8 at John Silver Lane, in Chisago City about 2 p.m. Details are still being investigated by state patrol, but local authorities said the car made a turning movement that put the vehicle right into the motorcycle’s line of travel. Johnson’s motorcycle hit the car door at a right angle and he was not wearing a helmet. He was transported by Lakes Area EMS to Wyoming Fairview where he was airlifted.
