Freeway crash victim identified by state patrol
The Minnesota State Patrol has released the name of the victim in the two-vehicle fatal crash March 11 on I-35 involving a county commissioner. The 2017 Ford Fusion that was reportedly hit head-on by Commissioner Lora Walker about 3:20 p.m. March 11 was being driven by Gary Anthony Briskey, 62, Gordon, WI.
Walker, 47, was driving northbound in a southbound lane of I-35, when her SUV hit the sedan head-on near Harris, according to preliminary accident reports.
Briskey’s car caught fire on impact, the patrol reported. Traffic was shutdown for hours during mid-day. He was alone in the vehicle.
Commissioner Walker remains hospitalized, undergoing surgeries this week. She represents District 1 on the county board, which encompasses Lent Township, the half of North Branch below Hwy 95, Center City and Chisago Lake Township North.
Her family released a statement thanking everyone for their expressions of support and prayers and condolences and prayers for the victim’s family.
Chisago County Attorney Janet Reiter has decided that to avoid any conflict of interest she requested that the Mille Lacs County Attorney oversee the legal process, saying this is “...to ensure objectivity in bringing (possible) charges and then prosecuting such a case,” Reiter concluded.
