4/6/2018 3:36:00 PM We are looking for the next Richard Hjort, clip and save
I have written here many times before, I am a snow lover. I love to ski, snowshoe, snowmobile and ice fish. But seriously - this is getting ridiculous. Last week I was sweeping my driveway, getting rocks that the snow plows had kicked up off the drive. Yesterday I was snowblowing for the third time since Friday. Third time. Now I hear this is supposed to continue for another week or so, again, c’mon - give us a break here. I don't know I am trying to find a positive here - our lakes should be higher right? No wait, then people could have flooding issues. Our grass will be greener? Then we have to mow more. I am really grasping at straws here.
The Chisago County Press is looking for someone special. As I wrote a few weeks back, our local naturalist Richard Hjort has retired and left us scrambling to fill his position. If you are a nature lover and weather and nature interest you, we would love to talk to you. We are looking for someone to take measurements of temperatures and precipitation as well as offer some quick notes about what is taking place in our county like birds migrating in, plants blooming etc. I know for a fact we have some nature lovers who read this paper. We would love to have you in our paper. Give us a call at 651-257-5115 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
There are just a couple of more weeks for you to take advantage of our early renewal special, If you look you will see a coupon on the top left side of page 2. That coupon will get you the County Press at a discount. Simply fill out the payment info or send a check to our office PO Box 748 Lindstrom, MN 55045 and we will make sure you don't miss a beat receiving the Press in your mailbox each and every week.
For those of you who choose to pick your papers up at the store, did you know it is actually cheaper to get it in your mailbox each week? That's right a subscription to the Press locally will run you $48 a year. Picking it up every week will run you $52. If my Chisago Lakes math is correct that is a savings of $4. Enough for a blizzard at Dairy Queen, or two Powerball tickets --which could win you millions - see it does pay to read the Press.
Just a reminder that the Chisago Lakes Community Dinner that takes place every Monday evening are still going strong. You are invited to come spend some quality time with neighbors and friends at a free meal held at Zion Lutheran Church in Chisago City. The meals are awesome, trust me I have had them and they are great. The meals begin at 4 pm. I will see you there.
Now that the snow has blanketed our lakes yet once again, I just wanted to remind you that the ice is not safe for vehicles. Need proof? I saw a Hummer break through the ice on Monday. With the snow cover you can not see the spots where the ice was thin before or even where a creek has been emptying into the lake back when it was warm.
Keep it safe, if you need to fish, walk out to the spot and save your vehicle, and possibly your life.
