The following is an update on multiple road projects expected this season in the county:
In addition to the I-35 freeway re-routing and lane closures-- and the fact that County Road 30 is torn up from Stacy northwards-- there will also be detours on Highway 8 when it is closed periodically for culvert projects MnDOT is undertaking. Guardrails and ditches on #8 are also getting some attention.
The closures require detours onto county roads and last week the county commissioners approved a contract with MnDOT allowing for use of the routes. Exact dates were not in the contract but these contracts generally come forward shortly before they are needed.
Detours are on County State Aid Highways 22 and 36 (detour for Wyoming area both directions on Hwy 8) and County Roads 15 and 23. The axle limit on the detours will be 12 tons. County Engineer Joe Triplett said detouring will last three to four days.
In other project updates: ~ The bridge deck pouring for the new North Lakes Trail County Road 20 bridge is taking place this week. The bridge installation is “moving right along,” said Triplett.
~ County Road 55 bid award is set for the first Board meeting in June, along with CSAH 9 and 19. Triplett explained that the two blocks or so of the Rush City #55 project was delayed for a year while the city planned its sewer and water replacement to happen concurrently.
~ CSAH 39 bridge replacement plan is being reviewed by the state.
~ The CSAH 30 (old 61) urban section in town at Stacy should be seeing concrete go down late this week. The northbound lane is first, and then crews do the southbound concrete. ~ Pre-design meetings with the state are on-going for the Hemingway Avenue extension, from where it ends now near #14 in North Branch to create a new intersection at #95. ~ County Road 74 from CSAH 14 (Lincoln Trail) to CSAH 9 should be ready to bid-out in July.
