Lady Vikes win at Becker, strong at Swain
By JEFF NORTON

Becker Invite The North Branch girls kept their winning ways up with a victory at the Becker Invite early last week. They were again paced by eighth grader Rhianna Rinke, who continues to impress no matter what course she runs on. Casey Hovland, Haley Huset, Laura Dolezalek, Alyssa Ramberg Cassidy White and Claire Schraufnagel also had strong races for the winning girls team. The boys team finished in third place with nice runs from their varsity lineup, including Ean Charpentier, Jake Petrik, Josh Petrik, Kyle Crowell, Kyle Granger, Zach Peno and Scott Ramberg. Fifteen of North Branch’s runners had a better time at this year’s Becker Invite than they did last year. Swain Invite The Vikings traveled up to chilly Duluth to take part in the Swain Invite over the weekend. The fall coldsnap didn’t seem to phase the Vikings top runners. Rinke finished in third place in the field of 164 runners with a time of 15:26. Hovland came in 37th place with a time of 16:40, Huset in 85th place with a time of 17:36, White in 105th place with a time of 17:54 and Schraufnagel in 112th place with a time of 18:12. The finishes put North Branch in 15th place out of 25 teams with 342 points. Conference rival Totino-Grace won the meet with 123 points. Although they didn’t place anyone in the top 15, the depth of the Eagles was the key and four of their top five runners finished in the top 25. Boys The boys finished 20th out of 29 teams at the prestigious Swain. Three Vikings wedged their way into the top 100. Charpentier, a senior, finished in 17:50, good enough for 65th place. Peno and Crowell came in almost shoulder-to-shoulder. Peno finished in 97th place with a time of 18:20 and Crowell was in 98th place with a time of 18:22. Petrik and Granger finished out the varsity scoring for NB. Petrik had a time of 18:35 in 121st place and Granger had a time of 18:47 in 136th place. As a team, North Branch finished with 517 points in 20th place. Minneapolis Southwest won the event with 76 points. They placed three runners in the top 10, pacing them to their victory. They were the only team, boys or girls, to score under 100 points.
