11/1/2012 10:08:00 AM Red Knights just too much for Chisago Lakes
Chisago Lakes wrapped up their regular season schedule with a tough loss to the Benilde-St. Margaret’s Red Knights. BSM has been a stalwart at the top of the North Suburban Conference for the last few years, and this year is no different. They opened the meet in a huge way with a one-two-three finish in the 200 medley relay, grabbing a quick 12-2 lead. The Wildcats chipped away in the next few events, getting a first place from Thomi Lee in the 200 freestyle and a first place from Kayla Donahue in the 200 individual medley. Those two wins trimmed the lead to 25-21, but a one-two-four finish in the 50 freestyle stretched BSM’s lead back to 12 at 37-25. The Wildcats had a nice diving session, getting a first from Sam Thomsen and a third from Courtney Schlegel. The Wildcats were only six points behind BSM until the Red Knights really began to make their move. Over the next four events, BSM outscored Chisago Lakes 41-21 and basically put the meet out of reach for CL. Donahue got another first place in the 100 backstroke and the Wildcats actually outscored BSM 12-2 in the 400 freestyle relay, but it just wasn’t enough as the Red Knights cruised to a 102-84 victory. The Wildcats have sections next week, and although it will be tough from them as a team, they have plenty of potential for individual swimmers and divers to qualify for the state meet down at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. Sections will take place at the Richfield Middle School on Thursday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 10, until then, the ‘Cats will be working on their taper to get the best times possible.
