'Cats best SLP, take on big schools in holiday tourney
By CHUCK FITZERNorth Branch 7, Moose Lake 3

Chisago Lakes 3, Spring Lake Park/St. Anthony Village 1 The Wildcat girls’ hockey team (3-9 overall) won for the third time in their last four games, beating the Spring Lake Park Panthers 3-1 last Friday, December 21 at Chisago Lakes Arena. After a scoreless first period, Allison Ives got the Wildcats on the board just over a minute into the second period, with an assist going to Amy Budde. Spring Lake Park tied it up late in the period. Six minute into the second period, Ellie Kimlinger scored, assisted by Amanda Franklin and Olivia Mechelke, to re-take the lead for the Wildcats. Allison Borgstrom added an unassisted insurance goal with 30 seconds left in the game to seal the win. The Wildcats outshot Spring Lake Park 29-25 for the game. Goaltender Amanda Shoquist stopped 24 of the 25 shots she faced to pick up the win. Chisago Lakes took on some of the big girls in high school hockey last week at the Centennial Holiday Tournament. They have participated in the tournament for a few years now and it featured seven Class AA schools -- Mounds View, Moorehead, Wayzata, White Bear Lake, Elk River, Centennial and North St. Paul -- and the Class A Wildcats.
