CL splits opening games

Chisago Lakes 12, Duluth Denfeld 3 (5 innings)
Celebrating the fact that they finally got to play their first game of the season, the Wildcats scored nine runs in the second inning on their way to a 12-3 win over Duluth Denfeld. The opener was played last Saturday, April 27 at Chisago Lakes. After spotting Denfeld three runs in the top of the second, the Wildcat bats went to work. Three singles, three doubles, two walks, a hit batter and three Denfeld errors added up to nine Wildcat runs.
In the third, Will Gillach doubled, Kyle Greave and Dylan Magnuson walked to load the bases and Kellen Reed hit a sacrifice fly to increase the Wildcat lead to 10-3. In the fifth, the Wildcats scored two more runs with one out on a walk to Mitch Berg, a single by Matt Hasselquist, a single by Magnuson and a single by Reed to make the final score 12-3. Reed and Hasselquist had two hits apiece for the Wildcats. The Wildcats ripped four doubles in the game, by Gillach, Hasselquist, Magnuson and Gabe Gustafson. Kellen Reed picked up the win in relief of starter Hunter Lindstrom, who allowed three runs in 1 2/3 innings. Reed struck out four and allowed just one hit in 2 1/3 innings of work. Dylan Magnuson pitched the fifth, striking out two.
St. Francis 7, Chisago Lakes 0
Matt Hasselquist picked up the only two hits for the Wildcats as they were shut out by conference opponent St. Francis 7-0 this past Monday, April 29 at Chisago Lakes. Trailing 7-0 entering the bottom of the sixth, the Wildcats loaded the bases with one out. But Jake Sandgren and Gabe Gustafson struck out to end the inning. The Wildcats went down 1-2-3 in the seventh. The loss dropped the Wildcats to 1-1 on the season.
