Rhianna Rinke continued her impressive running career at North Branch with a fourth place finish at the prestigious Milaca Mega Meet on Saturday, Sept. 21. The little freshman that could churned her legs to a 14:59 finish, which put her behind three seniors and a freshman from North Dakota. The time put Rinke in 15th place overall, regardless of class, which was a 661 runner field. Martha Hubbell of Visitation won the Class AAA met with a time of 14:30. North Branch senior Casey Hovland was the second Viking to cross the finish line, coming in at 15:50 in 20th place. Madison Belland finished in 39th place in 16:22 for NB. Haley Huset and Grace Puchtel rounded out the top five runners for the Vikes in 69th and 116th place respectively. North Branch finished with 248 points in ninth place. Monticello won the meet with a score of 66.
Boys In the boys side, the Vikings finished in 13th place, using a tiebreaker to finish ahead of Holy Angels Academy. Josh Petrik, Kyle Crowell and Alex Fitcha were the top runners for North Branch. Petrik finished in 18:33.3 in 58th place, Crowell came in 63rd place with a time of 18:37 and Fitcha broke 19 minutes with a 75th place in 18:55. Kyle Granger joined him in the sub-19 minute club, coming in right behind in 18:58 in 81st place. The Vikings tied Holy Angels with 336 points, but their sixth place finisher, Cole Willis, came in 83rd place in 19:06 while the Stars’ sixth place finisher came in 105th place in 19:54.
