CL upsets Vikings 3-1 on the court
by JEFF NORTON
by JEFF NORTON SPORTS EDITOR Chisago Lakes’ volleyball season has been a tough one. They started off 2-9 and 1-4 in their new home, the Mississippi 8 Conference. Meanwhile, North Branch was enjoying a banner first half of the season. Under new leadership, the Vikes were 10-2 and 3-1 in the conference. But, when the two teams met on the North Branch court last week, all the stats on paper and the places in the standings didn’t matter.
Chisago Lakes had crisp passing, and they’ve always been a passer away from winning a number of matches. North Branch didn’t have an answer for the ‘Cats gang of hitters including Sydney Powell, Bryanna Fernstrom and Tori Kildow. The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead, winning the first set handily 25-16. In the second set, Courtney Selbitschka, Ceyerra Kraemer, Katy Trunk and Company battled back to give North Branch their lone set in the match, a 25-22 victory. In the third set, Chisago Lakes narrowly edged North Branch 25-22, and by the fourth set, they pounced and finished the deal, winning 25-17 and earning their second M8C win.
North Branch ends the season with two more M8C matches against Monticello and Big Lake on Thursday, Oct. 10 and Tuesday, Oct. 15, respectively. They host Monti and travel to Big Lake Chisago Lakes plays on the same nights, but they travel to Rogers on Oct. 10 and host St. Francis in their season finale on Oct. 15.
