Wildcat wrestlers go 5-1 in opening weekend at home

The Wildcat wrestling team had a busy and largely successful weekend to open the 2013-2014 wrestling season, going 5-1 in dual meets. In the Chisago Lakes Quadrangular on Friday, December 6, the Wildcats swept Stillwater, Hibbing and Nashwauk-Keewatin. In the Chisago Lakes duals on Saturday, December 7, the Wildcats crushed St. Agnes in the quarterfinals. They lost to Kenyon-Wanamingo in the semifinals and finished third in the tournament by beating section opponent Grand Rapids. Both the quadrangular and the duals were wrestled at Chisago Lakes High School.
Five Wildcats finished the weekend undefeated with four or five wins. Dylan Connell, Joe Virga and Mark Sontag were all 5-0, and Aaron Sistrunk and Kyle Schoenecker each finished 4-0. Connell, Virga and Schoenecker each had four pins, Sontag had two and Sistrunk had one. The Wildcats will wrestle a dual meet tonight at section foe Milaca at 7 p.m. Tomorrow, they will head up to Brainerd for a two day invitational tournament that starts at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
