Vikings find out where they stand at Gymnastics True Team State
In the Mississippi 8 Conference, the North Branch Vikings rarely come across an elite Class A team. Big Lake had been in the past but they are a bit down this year. Cambridge-Isanti is an elite team, but they are Class AA and North Branch won’t see them in sections or state.
So, it was quite the experience for North Branch last weekend when they participated in the True Team state meet with the most elite teams in Class A in the state.
The Lady Vikes fared well, coming in sixth place with a score of 142.175, but they also saw how much more work they have to do to ascend to the top.
Detroit Lakes, the top team in the state regardless of class, won the meet with an astonishing score of 151.525. They beat second place Melrose by over three points. Austin came in third with a score of 145.825, Willmar in fourth with a 145.525 and Section 7A foe Sartell narrowly beat North Branch with a score of 142.550.
Keeley Ertl was the individual star for North Branch, scoring a 37.225 in the all around, good enough for sixth place at the elite meet. She scored 9.375 or higher on vault, balance beam and floor. Her lone area to improve on was the uneven bars, where she scored an 8.8.
The Vikings did get a huge boost from Angie Fish. She registered a 9.4 on the balance beam to finish in seventh place in the event, an 8.5 on the uneven bars and a 9.075 on the floor. Paige Bauer also stuck a 9.275 floor exercise, as that was NB’s best event on the day.
