Chisago Lakes blanks North Branch to begin 3-0 run to start the season

Chisago Lakes 10, North Branch 0
Mitch Barrett started and allowed just two hits in five innings and Joey Ferris and Anders Brown both homered as the Wildcats shutout the Vikings, last year’s Section 7AAA representative in the state tournament, 10-0 in the season opener for both teams.  The game was played at North Branch on Tuesday, April 4.

The Wildcats led all the way.  They scored in five of the seven innings, including four runs in the second and three runs in the seventh.  The Wildcats had eleven hits and the generous Viking pitchers allowed seven walks.  Brown had two hits, including a triple to go with his home run, and drove in two runs.  Ferris drove in two with his home run and Henry Trost tripled and plated two.  Gabe Taylor had a double and Connor Wilke and Zane Brophy each drove in a run.  Barrett struck out five and Troy Biernath and Adam Klick each pitched a scoreless inning.

Chisago Lakes 12, Cambridge-Isanti 2 (5 innings)
The hit parade continued for the Wildcats against the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets.  Joey Ferris singled, doubled, tripled and drove in three runs and Henry Trost homered as the Wildcats pounded out 14 hits in a 12-2 win over the Bluejackets Thursday, April 6 at Chisago Lakes High School.  The game was shortened to five innings when the Wildcats scored four times in the bottom of the fifth to trigger the ten-run rule.

Adam Hanson had three hits, including a double, and drove in one.  Trost had two hits and drove in two.  Dusty Rhodes drove in two runs with a double.  Anders Brown, Mitch Barrett and Zane Brophy also doubled and Barrett and Adam Klick drove in one run apiece.  Almost lost in all of the offensive fireworks was another great pitching performance.  Troy Biernath started.  He went four innings and allowed just two earned runs on three hits.  He walked two and struck out one.  Henry Trost finished up with a scoreless fifth inning.

Chisago Lakes 7, Hermantown 0
The Wildcats scored all of the game’s runs in the bottom of the third inning and three pitchers combined for a shutout as the Wildcats beat the Hermantown Hawks 7-0 last Saturday, April 8 at Chisago Lakes High School.  The win moved the Wildcats to 3-0 on the season.  In their three games so far, they have scored 29 runs while allowing just two.

The Wildcats had just three hits in their big inning, including a double by Dusty Rhodes and singles by Gabe Taylor and Mitch Barrett.  Two runners reached on errors, and other runners reached on a walk, a hit batter and a dropped third strike.  The Wildcats had four stolen bases in the inning.  Anders Brown stole third and home, Rhodes stole home and Taylor stole third.  Taylor drove in two runs in the inning.  Brown had three stolen bases in the game.
The pitching shined again.  Trevor Johnson started and went three and a third innings, allowing just two hits, walking one and striking out five.  Rhodes followed with two and two thirds innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit and striking out one.  And Barrett finished up with a scoreless inning, allowing two hits and striking out one.

Baseball Banter
The Wildcats (3-0) play at Princeton tonight and will host St. Michael-Albertville at Chisago Lakes High school next Tuesday, April 18.  Both games start at 4:30 p.m.
