Wildcat boys and Viking girls win true team sections

The Saints came marching in to Lindstrom last Tuesday, May 2 as the Wildcat track team hosted St. Michael-Albertville and St. Francis in what was essentially a triangular meet.  North Lakes Academy and Liberty Classical Academy each sent a few athletes, as well, but not really enough to affect many outcomes.  The Wildcat boys finished second and the girls finished third.

St. Michael-Albertville proved to be an especially tough competitor for the girls. The four by 400 relay team had the only first place finish on the day for the girls, finishing about two seconds ahead of the Knights.
The Wildcats had three second place finishes – Izzy Hindt in the 400-meter dash, Sam Nystrom in the discus and Lillian Peterson in the shot put.  Third place finishes were turned in by Alisha Nye in the 100-meter dash, Hindt in the 200-meter dash and Kalli Jo Olson and Elsa Leopold in the pole vault.

The Wildcat boys took the top four spots in the pole vault – Clayton Guetter, Augie Leopold, Alex Harnetty and Jeremiah Radich.  The Wildcat team of Dylan Blaul, Harnetty, Thomas Strand and Peter Vitalis finished first in the 100-meter dash. The Wildcats’ only other first place finish on the day was by Jack Hallstrom in the discus.

Two Wildcats had two second place finishes on the day – Dylan Blaul in the long jump and Brandon Williams in the shotput.  Four Wildcats had third place finishes – Peter Vitalis in the 100-meter dash, Alex Paulsen in the 110 meter hurdles, Bryce Burds in the 400-meter dash and Lucas Crouse in the 800-meter run.

Wildcat head boys’ coach Ken Orwoll said “Anytime you are at a meet with St. Michael-Albertville you have some good competition.  It was a good meet and overall everyone that was health ran well.  I though Peter Vitalis had a very good day.  He had his best time in the 100, and his best jump in the high Jump.  Our four by 100 and four by 200 relays ran very well.”  Four by 100 members are listed above.  Four by 200 members are Blaul, Strand, Arran Hickcox and Morehead.
