Bulldogs with up and down results midway through the season
This is a tale of two completely different games in one.
In the first game, Bulldog starter Colton Mueller went six innings, allowing just one run on two hits as the Bulldogs built a 4-1 lead over the Rum River Bandits.  In the second game – the seventh through ninth innings – Bulldog pitching gave up ten runs on just four hits.  Walking six batters and hitting two in those three innings didn’t help and when everything was combined, the Bulldogs came out on the short end of an 11-4 score.  The game was played last Wednesday, June 24 at Chisago Lakes.

Top 11 stories of 2014-15 for CL and NB (Part 2)
First things first, I apologize for a few things getting cut off in last week’s piece in the newspaper (namely, the headline and the last line of the story). That wasn’t an editor’s fault, that was our computers deciding to take off early for the holiday break and mail it in. They just don’t want to cooperate sometimes.  With that said, we are on to the second half of the Top 11 stories of 2014 and ‘15. Last week covered individual achievements, teams making deep runs in the sections and some exciting moments, but this week is even better.

Wild slate of close games for the Chisago Bulldogs
The Bulldogs claimed the consolation championship at the first annual Romp in the Swamp, at Stan Peterson Field in Quamba the weekend of June 12-14.

It was an event-filled weekend, with highs – a 13 inning win and three home runs by college players who pitch and do not hit during their college seasons (“pitcher onlys”) – and lows like the longtime girlfriend of Stan Peterson, tournament director, who died suddenly at the game prior to the Bulldogs’ Saturday game.  She collapsed as she was carrying some supplies to the concession stand and attempts to revive her were unsuccessful. Peterson insisted that the tournament go on.
