3/22/2018 11:51:00 AM NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
on the SHIELDS LAKE FISH
BARRIER RETROFIT PROJECT
(March 22, 29, 2018)
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that at a public hearing on Thursday, April 19, at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room of the Comfort Lake-Forest Lake Watershed District (CLFLWD) offices, 44 Lake Street South, Suite A, Forest Lake, MN 55025, the CLFLWD Board of Managers will receive public comment under Minnesota Statutes 103B.251 on the ordering of the Shields Lake Fish Barrier Retrofit Project.
The estimated cost for the Shields Lake Fish Barrier Retrofit is approximately $33,175. Of this amount, $30,600 would be supplied by a Conservation Partners Legacy grant and the remainder would be supplied by the CLFLWD through an ad valorem tax levy on real property within the watershed. Currently, an electric fish barrier is being operated along the channel connecting Forest Lake and Shields Lake to prevent the movement of rough fish between the two lakes. This inhibits rough fish such as common carp from spawning and growing to population densities that are harmful to lake vegetation and water quality. The electric barrier has been in place for over 20 years and is in need of significant updates or replacement. The CLFLWD proposes to install a passive mechanical fish barrier which will perform the same function of prohibiting rough fish passage, but at a lower long-term operational cost.
