12/22/2016 12:51:00 PM High School & Middle School Compassion Drive bring in an extraordinary amount
Chisago Lakes High School wrapped up its third annual Compassion Drive, during which the National Honors Society, Student Council and Link Crew Leaders, with the help of their advisors lead the school in a collection of toilet paper and personal hygiene for the Chisago Lakes Area Food Shelf. Over 250 families use the food shelf monthly and this collection makes a BIG impact on the families lives.
The first year the High School collected 4,079 rolls of TP, year two they collected 8,500 rolls of TP and THIS year they collected 11,073 rolls of TP. This is an incredible amount will allow the local food shelf to have TP to give out to families in need for at least a year. To think prior to the Compassion Drives the food shelf only had one roll of TP to give to a family a month. Thank you students and their families and school staff for helping our Chisago Lakes Area Community.
Transporting all the TP and personal hygiene items (weighing a huge 4,193 pounds) to the Chisago Lakes Area Food Shelf was possible in Perry Excavating and Son's trailer. Thank you!!!
The coordination of the collection drive commented on how kind and generous the Chisago Lakes Area students are. “Many of the students use their own money to purchase items for the Compassion Drive. Yes, their own money, not for a coffee, or a movie but to purchase items to help their community family have necessary items. I know of at least 3 students that spent over $100 of their own hard earned money. I think that says a lot about our students. In a time of concern for self verses others we are surrounded by students that think of others first. I can't think of a better Christmas gift than to be in a community of caring, compassionate people.”
+ + + +
The Chisago Lakes Middle School Compassion Drive for collecting toilet paper and personal hygiene items from December 6- 15, 2016 to help the over 250 families in our community that use the food shelf every month. The Student Council with the help of their advisor championed their very successful drive. The students and their families along with staff collected 3024 rolls of toilet paper and 1655 personal hygiene items for the Chisago Lakes Area Food Shelf. This is the Middle School's second year having a Compassion Drive and they more than doubled their collection of TP. In total all the items they collected weighed in at 1580 pounds of Compassion goodness. A BIG Thank You to our Middle School Students who are stepping up and making an impact in our community.
