North Branch District announces new director

North Branch Area Public Schools (NBAPS) is pleased to announce the hiring of current Royalton Public Schools superintendent Jon P. Ellerbusch to replace long-time Director of Finance and Human Resources Randi Johnson.

Ellerbusch started his career as a Social Science teacher at the Cresbard School District in South Dakota (1996-1998), served as a middle and high school principal at both the Waubay School District in South Dakota (1999-2002), and the Southland School District in Adams, MN. (2002-2007). Ellerbusch also served as the high school principal at the Kingsland School District (2007-2010) before taking on his current role as Royalton superintendent from 2010 to the present.

In his current capacity, Ellerbusch recently completed oversight of a five-year, $29.5 million construction project at Royalton. That experience will be valuable to NBAPS as it proceeds with the $70 million in improvements approved by school district residents on May 23, 2017.

"Jon has a wide range of experiences in public education that make him a perfect fit for North Branch Area Public Schools" said NBAPS Superintendent Deb Hention. "We are thrilled he is joining our team and putting his knowledge and experience to work on behalf of our school district communities."

Ellerbusch, who has a Doctorate in education, is married to his wife Rhonda of 21 years and has three children; Abby, who is working toward a Registered Nursing degree at St. Scholastica in Duluth; Anna, who just completed her freshman year in high school; and Zach, who will be in 8th grade this coming school year.

"My family and I are looking forward to moving to the North Branch area," said Ellerbusch. "My wife and I are excited about the recently approved referendum and new opportunities it will offer students, including our own two children in middle and high school. I feel very fortunate to be hired into a community where the citizens are willing to financially support and invest in the local education for all children and adults."

Ellerbusch, who enjoys spending time with family, reading, camping, and pheasant hunting in his spare time, starts his new position on July 1 and will work side by side with Johnson until her retirement in September.
