Groundbreaking for Community Center
Members of the current and past Chisago Lakes School Board were on hand to break ground on the new community center.  The building will sit on the current student parking lot next to the swimming pool.  The community center will be utilized by both students and the public and is expected to be completed by February of 2019.

Students from Chisago Lakes representing Lakeside and Taylors Falls Elementary participated in the regional Math Masters of Minnesota Challenge at St. Croix Middle School, in Hammond, WI on April 20, 2018.

CLHS students promote discussion, sharing of ideas as part of walk-out
Friday, April 20 was the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School mass shooting murders.  On this day Chisago Lakes high schoolers, and more than 2,600 other student groups around the nation,  participated in walkouts and respectful protest.

Chisago Lakes School Board gets good news on construction projects
The Chisago Lakes School Board met April 12 for a regular meeting.  All members were in attendance.  After approving paying the bills, the board recognized student athletes from the winter sports season.

Small engines program outgrows Wyoming home, now at FLHS
The youth mechanics program “Tried and True” has been housed since 2015 at a shop in the city of Wyoming.  The Lakes Center for Youth & Families mechanics skills program started to outgrow its space, and, through a great collaboration process with a local school district, the small engines program has found a new home at Forest Lake High School.

Red-ink requires $1.2 million costs trimmed; Board votes 4-2
The North Branch School Board faced a packed house March 8 for its budget adjustments action.  There were 40 or so in the Board Room audience as the School Board recorded a split vote implementing $1.5 million in reductions to balance the 2018-2019  budget.

Wildcat select choir members compete
Tuesday, February 27 Chisago Lakes High School Select Choir sent 12 students to perform at State Solo/Ensemble Contest held at Andover High School. Out of the 12, 10 performances received Superior Ratings (the highest rating) and two solo performances received Excellent Ratings (2nd highest score). Outstanding work by our choir students. Erin Myhran and Ariah Schaefer received perfect scores for their solos performed in Italian.

Sunrise River Elementary collects for food shelf and hits the beach
It may have only registered about 20 degrees outside-- but Sunrise River Elementary School in North Branch enjoyed a nice sunny day at the beach last week.
