Beach Party at North Branch Sunrise Elementary School
The excitement was thick last week for the much anticipated Beach Party lunch at North Branch Sunrise Elementary School.  The party is a special day when kids bring a beach towel, wear their summer clothes and parents are invited and everbody celebrates the school’s fitness and nutrition curriculum and tally the food shelf collection. There is a fun bag lunch on the menu, and  kids do the limbo to summery music.  Puppets are created by the first, second, third,  and fourth graders,  depicting healthy foods (see photos) and winners receive prizes.  The school donations came to 1,720 pounds of non perishable food items for the North Branch Food Shelf, up from last year’s 1,395 lbs.

CL Baptist students celebrate 'I Love to Read' month
Preschool and kindergarten classes read Little House books during class, while first through sixth grade classes participated in an all school read-aloud, Prairie School, by Lois Lenski.  Daily prizes were awarded to the first student who found a golden snowflake that was hidden throughout the school.  For ten minutes each day, students were invited to “stop, drop, and read.”  Occasionally a mystery reader read a selection from a well- known book over the loudspeaker.  Each week, the names of children who returned their reading logs were put into a drawing for one of a dozen books.
