James Swenson James Roy Swenson, age 60 of Kost and a lifelong farmer, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at his home.
Jim was born to Roy and Emma (Stamm) Swenson on September 18, 1952 in St. Paul. Jim was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Weber. He graduated from North Branch High School in 1970 and went on to attend Pine Tech in the Welding program.
On March 31, 1979 he married Gwendolyn Kressin at St. John’s Lutheran. During their early married years Jim and Gwen were very active in the North Branch FFA alumni and Chisago County Farm Bureau.
In 1982, Jim received the Minnesota Farm Bureau Outstanding Young Farmer award. Jim farmed with his brother John for many years as the Swenson Brothers Farm. Jim eventually took over the farming operation with his sons, Karl and Kurt. Jim was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund and had served on the church council for many years. Jim was also a member of the Oak Leaf Grange and a 4-H Leader for 25 years. He helped mainly with the swine project and the Swine Shows at the Chisago County Fair. 4H was a large part of his children’s lives and Jim was always there to support them.
Along with hunting and fishing, Jim enjoyed a good game of cards and also telling his many ”tall tales.”
Jim is survived by his wife, Gwen; sons, Karl (fiancé Shannon LaPlante), Kurt (fiancé Michelle Hammer); daughter, Katherine; brother, John (Sue), nieces, Sara and Lisa; mother in law, Lois Kressin, sister in law Paulette Kressin. Jim is preceded in death by his father, Roy Swenson, mother, Emma Teeman and stepfather, Ray Teeman and father in law Vernon Kressin.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. on Friday, February 1, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund. Visitation will be Thursday, January 31 from 4-8 p.m. at Grandstrand Funeral Home in North Branch and also one hour prior to the service at church on Friday.
