Linda Louise Goodroad, 51, was born in Minneapolis, MN on April 23, 1965 to Lee and Dana Jackson of Fridley. She passed on to our Savior January 27, 2017 after bravely fighting breast cancer for 16 years.
In the summer of 1974 the Jackson family moved to Forest Lake, where Linda and her brother and sister grew up on the lake. Linda loved the lake and playing on the water. Linda graduated from Forest Lake H.S. in 1983 then attended the University of MN graduating with two degrees. While in college she skied for the U of MN Water Ski Team and continued her love of skiing with the Bald Eagle Water Ski Show, until she was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, at the age of 35.
Linda was the proud mother of two beautiful children, Sam Engel, 22 and Rachel Engel, 21, and wonderful stepmom to Jessica Goodroad, 30, Jacob Goodroad, 25, and Justin Goodroad, 24.
Linda and John have been together for over 18 years and did an amazing job blending two families. They truly created one family out of two. The family did everything together - they were seven strong and will now continue as six STRONGER.
Linda had a work family as well. She worked in the lumber industry for 20 years, most of them at McCarron's Building Center. She liked the challenge of bidding custom homes. She always took great pride in the inventory of the yard; controlling all angles of it.
Linda loved the outdoors, never wanting to be inside. She enjoyed trips with John and the kids to the cabin in the north woods, including the annual MEA trip to 4-wheel, grouse hunt, and look for signs of deer; followed by the annual deer hunting trip in November. The 24x24 one-room Goodroad cabin often slept up to 20 people. These trips were always highlights of the year. She also loved snowmobiling and in the last few years without snow cover, she enjoyed ice fishing. The family started annual ice fishing trips to Lake of the Woods to spend quality time on the ice. This "city girl" turned "country girl" also loved working with the kids on their 4-H projects. This led her to falling in love with the farm lifestyle; the garden that was too big, all the flower gardens around the house, and raising sheep, chickens and rabbits.
Linda also loved to hunt and shoot. She won Lady High Gun for trap at the Chisago Lakes Sportsmen’s Club several years and shot sporting clays with the family at least once a month.
The past few years as the cancer was getting harder to fight, Linda couldn't always get to work or work in her gardens, so she started spending more time with the her two couch companions - Pippi, a long tailed calico, and Oliver, her stray gray tuxedo. Both cats stayed with and watched over her when she came home from the hospital. Her last walk was with Radar, her 135 pound Chesapeake Bay retriever. He always loved whatever she gave him for a treat.
She is survived by her parents Lee and Dana Jackson of Forest Lake, sister Wendy (DuWayne) Joarnt of WBL, brother Jeff (Marta) Jackson of Circle Pines, loving husband John, and children Rachel Engel, Sam Engel, Justin Goodroad, Jacob Goodroad, and Jessica Goodroad.
