Robert T. Oldham, age 88, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Parmly Assisted Living Apartments in Chisago City, Minnesota.
He was born August 28, 1928 in Hillsdale Township, Winona County, Minnesota. He grew up in rural southeast Minnesota on the family farm. He went to Silo Lutheran School outside of Lewiston, Minnesota and completed the eighth grade. He met Lorraine Abbott in 1948. They were married in St. Charles, Minnesota on September 4, 1949. They raised five children – Nancy, Lee, Larry, Merry, and Sheryl. They moved to Lindstrom area in 1953 and later settled three miles west of Chisago City in 1963.
Robert worked many years as a mechanic at Chisago City Coop, at Hovey Equipment by Lake Comfort, at the Arsenal in New Brighton, at Moody Rambler in Center City, and at Hazelden in the car maintenance department for 17 years, where he retired. He then worked at the State’s Forest Lake Wayside Rest stop for about nine years.
He always had a great work ethic and was a good neighbor. He enjoyed helping people and working on cars. They went on camping trips with their motorhome and did some traveling.
They moved into Parmly Assisted Living in February of 2015 and enjoyed outings and events.
Robert is preceded in death by daughter Nancy Ibrahim; brothers Roger Oldham & Richard Oldham; and sister Margaret Hoefs.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lorraine; children Lee Oldham of St. Paul, MN, Larry (Vickie) Oldham of Cottage Grove, MN, Merry (Dale) Gunderson of St. Croix Falls, WI, and Sheryl (James) Trumble of Baldwin, WI; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brothers Arnold (Delores) Oldham and Ralph (Kay) Oldham; & many other relatives & friends.
Funeral Service 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 6, 2017 at Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom, Minnesota. Visitation one hour prior to service. Interment at Kahbakong Cemetery in Taylors Falls, Minnesota. Condolences may be expressed online at www.grandstrand fh.com
