12/29/2017 10:42:00 AM Christmas was about giving this year, approach New Year's Eve with caution
Thanks so much to all of wonderful volunteers who helped serve the Christmas Meal held at First United Methodist Church on Monday. The meal served a whopping 130 people and filled their bellies with great food and comaraderie. The folks that put the meal on take time away from their families to make Christmas a little more bearable for those who are alone. what a wonderful gesture. What a great place we live in!
I hope Santa was good to you this year. We had a wonderful Christmas at our house. We spent the day at home with just us. I know most people are traveling to spend Christmas with families, after decades and decades of traveling to Iowa for Christmas, we decided to stay put. When the kids were young, it was great because they would play with their toys and basically be around us all day. As many of you know, the older they get the more they spend times in their rooms away from us. This year was different, they had every reason to be bored with their old mom and dad, but yet there they were, hanging out with us. It was amazing. We didn’t do anything special, just putzed around. But it was one of the best Christmases I have ever had. I remember my dad telling me that he never wanted anything for Christmas, just being around us was present enough. I always rolled my eyes and told him he was being a martyr. Here I sit 15 years later thinking the best Christmas gift I have ever had was to spend it with my family. Why did I ever stop listening to him.
This weekend is a big one for partiers. New Year’s Eve is notorious for partying - dud Matt everyone knows that. This year there is an enhanced DWI enforcement taking place in Chisago County. Sooo, you know where I’m going with this...make a plan. Please make a plan. Have a designated driver, plan to stay the night, anything you have to do to avoid drinking and driving will protect you and ultimately the rest of us. Thank you in advance.
The Super Bowl is coming to town...have you heard that? It’s impossible to not have heard, everywhere you turn there is a commercial or signs for it. It’s a great way to showcase our state and the Twin Cities. If the Vikings could somehow make it to the big game, that would be unbelievable. The Vikes are playing great right now, but being a lifelong tortured Vikings fan, I am always prepping for disappointment. A horrible outlook I know, but like many of you, I have had 45 years of this.
Maybe this year is different, maybe they will prove us all wrong and miracles will happen. We will have to wait and see. Heck, I never thought I would see the Twins win a sorld series and I have seen it twice now.
We did get a present from the Vikings this year even if they don’t make it to the big game. We got to see them win against Green Bay twice this year. So the year has already been a success.
