3/9/2018 1:51:00 PM County Commissioner Lora Walker charged in fatal traffic collision
Chisago County Administrator Bruce Messelt says the county has no comment on vehicular homicide charges that have been filed in Tenth Judicial District Court in Center City against a county commissioner. Charges against Lora Jean Waker, 48 of Stacy, alleged causing the death of another while operating a motor vehicle in a grossly negligent manner. Charges by summons were filed March 8 almost one year-to-the-day of a fatal crash on I-35, she is alleged to have caused.
The court’s statement of probable cause relates that on or about March 11, 2017 Walker was driving northbound in a southbound lane north of North Branch, striking an on-coming Ford Fusion head-on and killing the lone occupant.
State Patrol handled accident reconstruction and their investigation ended up in Mille Lacs County, to avoid any potential for conflict of interest in Chisago County.
Walker was airlifted from the scene and was hospitalized for months. She has recently returned to performing some duties of her elected office, attending County Board meetings via electronic remote access from a link site within the city of North Branch, in her county commissioner district.
