From parka to speedo in a week, lots to do this weekend

One week.... one week and we are looking at a total opposite landscape.  As I sat crying staring out the window a week ago Sunday, thinking the snow would never end, I envisioned the ice being on our lakes until June 11.  Ok, so maybe I have a flair for the dramatics, but even the most optimistic people have to admit this winter was really long, like interminable, like verbose - like Heinz ketchup - sorry I’m dating myself..

Anyway, here we sit and Stein Insurance’s digital thermometer across the street tells me it’s 72º outside.  Only in Minnesota.

This weekend there are a couple of fun things to take part in.  The city of Lindstrom cordially invites you to City Hall Saturday for the second annual Spring Swing Dance.  If you have never ben swing dancing, don’t worry, there is an introductory how to class that will run from 5:30 pm to 6 when the dance begins.  The Retro Swing Sisters will be playing and you can enjoy food and beer which Deustchland Meats will be selling.  The dance runs until 9 pm and promises to be a blast.  City hall is located at 13292 Sylvan Avenue in Lindstrom.

If you are a subscriber, thank you.  If you are a person who picks the paper up on the newsstand every week, thank you too.  Our readers are the reason we get up every morning. It isn’t just our job to provide you with the most up-to-date, pertinent, local news, it is our privilege.  We are lucky to get to cover such a great community.  If you would have told me 20 years ago that I would work at a community newspaper, I would have asked you what you were smoking. Yet here I am and I thank God everyday for the opportunity.

Either this week or early next week you will receive your annual subscription renewal card in the mail.  It is a friendly reminder to ensure your home never misses an edition of the Chisago County Press.  Our rate is the same as last year - $48 for in-county and $50.50 for out-of-county homes.

We have received a ton of early renewals over the last few weeks. If you are one of the early renewers, thank you. If you happen to get a blue renewal card in the mail, don’t worry. Just disregard it. Sometimes our renewals and computer inputs overlap.

If you have thought about subscribing, we would love to have you.  Subscribing is easy, you can go to chisagocountypress.com or send a check to Chisago County Press, PO Box 748, Lindstrom MN 55045.  We will ensure you get into the system and receive your paper the same week.

Speaking of this weekend, the Chisago Lakes Lions Club still has a few tickets left for their Cadillac Dinner.  The dinner is Saturday evening at the Lent Town Hall.  The tickets are $150 per couple, but it easily is the biggest fundraiser for the Lions.  The ticket will get you a dinner for two, drink tickets, and a chance to win some awesome prizes with a grand prize of $2000 cash.  Second place is $500 and third place is $200.  Social hour runs from 5-7pm  with dinner served at 7pm.  The program runs from 8-10pm.  There are a ton of other prizes given away with 50/50 raffles and a silent auction.  I am the most unluckiest person in the world and I even won the grand prize a while back.  Maybe it’s your turn.  Call Sally at 651-501-1504 for tickets.
