5/11/2018 11:21:00 AM Walker will not seek re-election as county commissioner
Editor's Note: County Commissioner Lora Walker issued the following statement May 10.
"It is with genuine heartfelt gratitude that I say thank you for allowing me to serve you over the years. I will not be seeking re-election to a fifth term as your District 1 Chisago County Commissioner.
My colleagues, who I have been privileged to work alongside, have been excellent mentors and teammates. The exceptional residents of our district, and county, are some of the best people I have ever met and will remain lifelong friends.
Several of my most memorable efforts include: successfully advocating to keep Sunrise Prairie Trail open to recreational traffic and a complete repaving last year, providing a new emergency communications tower for Stacy/Lent Fire and surrounding residents, building three new county libraries, and helping to prevent a power plant from being built while allowing for solar options. I am pleased that County Road 17 and Highway 95 bridges were built over I-35 and that improvements are currently underway for County Road 30 in Lent Township to become a solid concrete road. In addition, a new roundabout will be built on Highway 8 near Hazelden. These accomplishments will continue to enhance our lives long after my term has ended.
I am eager to see who will step forward to fill the commissioner seat from the many talented residents of our district. You may visit the County Auditor between May 22 and June 5 to file for office."
