Center City Council OK's part-time third administrative staffer
The Center City Council was advised by the fire chief last week to expect the new right-sized trusses are to be arriving this week for the fire hall project to get back on track. Also, the specialized wash-room equipment has been installed and firefighters have updated laundry on-site. Bathroom finishing is the next major project.
Council member Lloyd Vetter participated remotely, and the wireless connection was spotty at the outset of the meeting Feb 5, but he was able to participate in votes, such as:
~Approving advertising for a part time deputy clerk/treasurer. The job will be 10 hours per week, while city staff adjusts to some personal hurdles that are affecting work hours.
~ Repairs to the plow truck were presented by Public Works Director Eric Garner, who said struts, bearings, ABS sensor and shocks need replacing. Cost estimate is approximately $2,600, approved 5-0.
~ Garner also looked into equipping the summer utility Cub Cadet with a snow blade and brush for doing snowclearing on sidewalks. The unit was not purchased with sidewalk clearing in mind, so an apparatus (bracket) needs to be fitted to hold the motor power and attach accessories to the four-wheeler. It could run about $5,000, said Garner.
Mayor Mark Wolcott brought up policy questions, that will need to be answered, such as which sidewalks will get cleared by staff and which ones won’t. The budget for additional operator hours needs to be reviewed. This is just at the discussion stage. Currently city code calls for property owners to be responsible for shoveling.
~ A set of variances was okayed on a 5-0 vote--for a second story addition to 680 Grand Avenue, south of Hwy 8. The dwelling already is non-conforming, so the motion adopted a description of existing street setbacks, bluff and impervious surface code non-compliance conditions. There will be a small structural bumpout added to the ground floor, on the street front, to better blend the second story into the house.
