2/15/2019 2:30:00 PM McPherson appointed to North Branch empty council seat
The North Branch City Council appointed Joel McPherson to the empty seat, created when Jim Swenson was successful in his run for mayor. The vote was 3-1 Tuesday night, with Swenson opposed.
Council members interviewed four candidates who had submitted applications for the seat, and on motion by Council member Kelly Neider, McPherson was appointed. He’ll recite his oath of office at a future session.
Council said they supported him over the other applicants because he has previously served on the city council and he is a longtime resident familiar with city operations. He serves on the North Branch Planning Commission now.
There will be an empty seat on the Planning Commission when McPherson takes the council position. Contact city hall for information if you are interested in applying for that.
