Local clean-up dates coming
Some local recycling days are coming up soon, many offered in recognition of Earth Day, April 22. Take advantage of these to dispose of many items that are proving difficult to sell, can’t be donated or placed in household trash and maybe are not repairable or contain any useful parts. Events include:
~ Chisago Lake Lutheran Church, in Center City, has made an annual event out of recycling in cooperation with a local business. The historic church allows people to use the lower church parking lot on County Road 9/37 to drop-off items. Hours for this Saturday, April 20 event, open to everybody, are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
~ If you live in Shafer plan to dispose of various unwanted items at disposal/recycling day Saturday, August 17. The public works building will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. Evergreen Recycling provides the processing. Expect to pay a fee for items like computers, television, appliances, etc.
~ Residents of North Branch can make use of recycling/disposal day at the city public works facility, 39276 Grand Avenue, Saturday April 27. A local recycler company will process your items; there are fees for things like mattresses, tires, appliances, etc.
The North Branch city compost site is nearby (at Ash Street and Grand) and on this Saturday you can also pick-up finished compost, with help loading from public works personnel. Hours for this are also 9 a.m. to noon.
Additional recycling events for residents are in May. Rush City recycling day is May 18. The city public works building on Forest Boulevard, old Hwy. 61, will be open from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
~ Amador Township hosts a disposal drop-site May 9 in Almelund from 4 to 7 p.m.
~ Lent Town Hall will host recycling day Wednesday, May 22, from 4 to 7 p.m.
~ Franconia Township’s recycling clean-up day is June 1. Watch for times. etc.
~ Shafer Twsp. holds recycling-cleanup day August 17 along with Shafer City.
~ Chisago Lake Township has a regular event, with some items requiring a disposal fee. Open every third Saturday monthly, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the township public works facility/townhall site on 316th, north of Lindstrom. This is open to the public you do not have to reside in the township. The monthly events run through October.
The county Household Hazardous Waste Facility in North Branch is open to take your chemical cleaners, paint and varnish and other toxic products, including fluorescent lighting and old mercury thermometers.
The facility is at 39649 Grand Avenue. Hours are Mondays from noon to 7 p.m. and the last Saturday of each month, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. People with large loads should make an appointment, or if you have questions call-- 651-213-8920. This facility is for Chisago County residents.
And, people who live in Lindstrom, Chisago City, Wyoming and Stacy are welcome to bring vegetative matter, small limbs, leaves, lawn clippings, to the Compost Site north of Chisago City. Your tax dollars support this site, others will be asked to pay 50 cents per garbage bag full.
Hours for the compost site at the Chisago Lakes Joint Sewage Treatment Center on 31501 Lofton Avenue are: Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 1 to 4 on Sunday.
