7/25/2019 3:51:00 PM North Branch man is second fatality on Highway 95 in two days
The state patrol has identified the victim in a fatal three-vehicle crash west of North Branch, in Isanti County, July 24. David Winberg, 56 of North Branch was a passenger in a Kia Soul that was shoved into another car waiting to make a turn off Highway 95. The incident was reported about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday at Hornsby and Highway 95. This is the second fatality on this stretch of Highway 95 in two days.
According to the early reports from the state patrol there was a 2011 Ford Fiesta in the right turn lane, westbound on #95 turning to travel onto Hornsby. A 2012 Kia Soul came along eastbound on #95 and also wanting to take a turn onto Hornsby and was waiting in the left side of the easterly lane.
A Caliber passenger car rear-ended the Kia and pushed it into the Fiesta and there was a passenger in the Kia who was killed. None of the drivers suffered life threatening injury and according to the state patrol only Tracy Hartmann, 47 of North Branch who was driving the Soul, was transported.
The driver of the Caliber was 21-year-old Madison Amundson of Cambridge.
The Fiesta, waiting to turn from the westbound lane, was driven by 17-year-old Andrew Vaneerden of North Branch.
The crash is under investigation. Isanti and Chisago county sheriff deputies were at the scene with Lakes Region EMS.
