Shafer Days and Apple Fest this weekend, come out and enjoy
This weekend our area won’t disappoint for activities for you and your family to have some real fun, real cheap.
Beginning tomorrow (Friday) the city of Shafer invites you to the annual Shafer Days celebration. It’s two days jam-packed with activities for everyone of all ages.
Bingo at the Fire Department begins at 6 pm and features concessions including beer and some great prizes.
The Shafer Saloon invites you to an outside concert by the band Gel beginning at 8 pm. Oh did I say they also have a mechanical bull?
Saturday morning the Fire Department will host a pancake and french toast breakfast beginning at 7am.
At 9 am, the clues will be posted for the missing clog hunt. Clues are posted at city hall and the fire department. Find the clog - win a cool $100.
City Hall will have a great history of Shafer display inside featuring the Shogren sisters’ baton exhibit and other fascinating Shafer tidbits.
As always, there will be a large group of vendors all along Redwing Avenue (mainstreet) with food and crafts for purchase.
There is a great motorcycle show that begins at 9:30 am where the public is invited to show their favorite ride off as well as some great custom rides.
To go along with the bike show, there is a car show that will fill the downtown streets beginning at 10 am. This is always a huge car show so bring your cameras.
There also will be a climbing wall, amusement rides all at the bike trail head. Chainsaw races are from 11 am to 2 pm at the fire hall.
Shafer Grande Day Parade will begin at 4 pm at Shafer Meadows Park and wind its way through town.
And, Ole’s Crossroad’s will host the closing band with Lipstick & Dynamite taking the stage at 8 pm.
Sunday is one of my favorite celebrations of the year.
Apple Fest at Almelund, celebrates its 26th year and organizers would love to have you come visit. A one day event centered around all things apple, you will find every form of apple: from deserts to jams to my favorite plain old home grown just picked apples. There’s plenty of things to do at Apple Fest such as enjoy the bands, cloggers, singers and more.
The site has a history museum and log cabins you can tour, model T rides, a movie (or possibly the Vikings game) on a screen inside a log building, petting zoo and plenty of hand-on activities for kids.
The celebration runs from 11am to 4pm, yes it’s always during the Vikings game, but for some that is all the more reason to get outside and have some fun.
For those of you who don’t know where Almelund is located, you can get there going east on Hwy 95 from North Branch, heading west from Taylors Falls, north from County Road 9 or 12. We will see you there!
