Male hurt Sunday making a snowboard video in Interstate Park should be OK
The St. Croix Falls and Taylors Falls fire and rescue teams and Chisago County sheriff personnel, along with Lakes Region EMS and North Air Care should all be relieved and proud. There is good news regarding a bluff fall victim unresponsive Sunday night, when responders arrived to aid him.
The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office released preliminary details after getting calls from people wanting to know about the large presence of emergency responders on the non-river side of Interstate Park, about 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan 19.
Early reports were that a young male was in remote terrain, was not conscious and may have been seriously injured after a fall of about three stories.
Further details became available Monday.
Luke Zajac, 19, of Marine, was snowboarding on an old public right-of-way segment in Taylors Falls. A sheriff spokesperson said the idea was to videotape the experience. There had been snow and sleet and re-freeze the day before, causing icy conditions and it was nearing dark, when the subject apparently dropped off a cliff in the wooded area.
The park terrain was difficult to navigate, but responders got Zajac to where he could be transported to St. Croix Memorial Hospital where he was prepped and airlifted to Regions by North AirCare.
