4/3/2020 12:00:00 PM Amborella House on track, banquet postponed
The annual banquet fundraiser for Amborella House which is normally held this time of year, has been delayed until September 22. The postponement is due to covid-19 virus-related precautions. Watch for event updates.
This setback is not going to deter the Amborella House organization, however, as it moves forward equipping and preparing its location in Lent Township. Officials report it is moving along on schedule to accept its first residents. (Press story on township permit fall 2019.)
The mission of Amborella House is to assist sex trafficked women in freeing themselves of their enslaved situations and getting them on the road to gaining real life skills to become successful. The local site is a single family residence Amborella House purchased. It will house several women and a director. The residents will already have participated in programs addressing any drug addiction or psychological issues.
The house will provide programming and a safe place to reclaim lost lives. A host of volunteers and professionals will be there for whatever the residents require to get them back into regular society...from learning to cook to addressing individual academic needs.
The Amborella House officials say the banquet fundraiser delay this month may “...slow things down but it will not stop our forward movement in plans to open the house.”
The house purchase is finalized and the Conditional Use Permit is in hand but the project presents a few costs. ~ In order to meet township permit conditions--neighboring property owners requested-- a fence needs to enclose the parcel. This is estimated to cost about $4,000 to $5,000.
~ An interior wall to partition a big open concept room into a couple of smaller useful spaces will run about $1,000.
~Individuals or groups can “sponsor a bedroom” which is about $1,500. The room sponsors will be providing a bed, lamp, desk, chair, bedding, closet set-up and an easy chair.
~ There’s a retail partner that helped establish a registry on-line. Items such as kitchen goods that you purchase from this listing are attributed to the Forest Lake Target Store. When ordering from the registry designate Amborella House Director Terri Hopman as alternate pickup person. If you get the e mail announcing the order has arrived it is requested you also e mail firstname.lastname@example.org and let them know. There has been a glitch in item pick up notifications, but Target is “...being helpful in working out the bugs” the director said. The e mail notice also provides you with a tax exempt donation receipt.
This registry can be found at tgt.gifts/amborellahouse.
Or, to make a general cash donation the organization’s website is at http://renewhopemn.org. You are welcome to mail a donation to Amborella House P.O. Box 725 Wyoming, MN 55092. You can specify your donation for a specific house item on the check memo line.
