Two arrested following Wednesday afternoon pursuit, through North Branch
Local authorities were involved in a high speed pursuit-- the second incident in several days-- on May 13, as two suspects in a Mitsubishi Outlander were travelling at very high rates of speed and causing concern for public safety.
The North Branch Police report two males, a 27-year-old from Illinois and a 27-year-old with a St Paul address, were arrested when they abandoned the Outlander on the freeway after a chase that went nearly the length of Chisago County.
Authorities first pursued the vehicle out of St Paul, north on Manning Trail about 2:50 p.m. Wednesday and quit the pursuit. The vehicle was later spotted in the County Road 14 and Grand Avenue area and North Branch Police tried to halt the vehicle, allegedly being driven in an unsafe manner at Elm Street and Fifth Avenue. Lights were activated by the officer, but according to police the car did not stop and fled northbound on I-35 from the North Branch interchange.
The state patrol helicopter was able to track the fleeing vehicle and when the two suspects abandoned it at Pine County, they were detained as they fled.
