5/22/2020 12:05:00 PM Summer cancellations from COVID-19 concerns now include Karl Oskar Days and the County Fair
The Lindstrom City Council voted May 21 to call off Karl Oskar Days this summer. The entire summer outdoor concert series Harmony in the Park has also been called off, in a follow-up vote after just the first two musical performances were cancelled last month. Lindstrom City Council discussed the celebration and decided the events cannot be offered and still follow guidance for virus avoidance. The council expressed hopes the events coordinator will be able to develop some sort of virtual experience for the KO Days Ambassadors and create something online in the vein of a Karl Oskar tribute or virtual event, to keep the community engaged.
The Chisago County Fair is not happening either. The 2020 fair had been scheduled for July 16-19. The Agricultural Society (Fair Board) announced on Facebook the county fair is cancelled for 2020. The Fair Board is selling t-shirts online to mark the year when there was no fair. Check the offering soon.
Cancellation of the annual June event -- North Branch MidSummer Days -- was made public a few weeks ago.
Remaining community celebrations are still under review.
Some city councils don’t have authority to call off festivals that are sponsored and organized by civic organizations. For example, Stacy City Council at its last meeting was waiting for input from Stacy Lions on the town celebration status. The Chisago County Press will have updates as decisions are made.
