North Branch School Board goes on tour of sites; hears activities faves

The members of North Branch School Board toured learning spaces and saw newly-installed mechanical and electrical/lighting as part of a Board tour of facilities last week.

Timing for this was perfect,  because the covid-19 virus was influencing on-site learning at the education center on Grand Avenue, that very same day.  (See covid in North Branch and Chisago Lakes update story on website.)

Superintendent Sara Paul told the School Board the building and grounds staff response is key to getting kids back into on-site/remote hybrid experiences.  Paul thanked the taxpayers who voted to authorize a host of projects in approving the referendum  financing. Their suport is very appreciated and Paul said new capital projects, from cleanable furnishings to air circulation and ventilation-- have helped immeasurably in dealing with the pandemic.

On the tour, Art Tobin, district manager for Building & Grounds, explained components of cutting edge ventilation and filtration systems just installed,  as part of North Branch’s  multi-year referendum plan.  Tobin cited the ability to now control room-specific conditions, explaining how humidity, temperature, even CO content can be monitored through the overall HVAC  components upgrades.

Energy savings too, are something Tobin looks forward to being able to report to the Board after this maiden year of operating the equipment.

Two students backed-up much of what the Board heard with their powerpoint presentation on activities spaces.  Abby and Dylan (see photo) highlighted their favorites and why.  From the clean, modern concession building with heated bathrooms,  to the refurbished auditorium, to a stadium with a sound system you can actually hear-- the students walked the Board members through some of their favorite improvements.

In other business: the Board voted unanimously to revise the policy on Student Dress and Appearance to allow the wearing of hats (headgear)  at the discretion of each school principal.
