North Branch Water & Light 2020 rebates far-ranging
Going into 2021 the staff with North Branch Water & Light are looking to spread the word on money-saving rebates available to commercial and residential customers and report on what the utility did to help out commercial-industrial customers in 2020.
Customers who chose to install energy efficient equipment, were provided over $150,000 in various rebates. Residential customers can get financial assistance for Energy Star appliances, for dehumidifiers and for room air conditioners and central air conditioning, among other utility promotions.
Nancy Kelly, an analyst with the electric cooperative that North Branch belongs to, said, “This has likely been the biggest year for North Branch Water and Light in providing support for energy efficiency in the city in a long time.”
North Branch Water and Light was involved in two large noteworthy projects in 2020, she said. The school district construction projects resulted in over $100,000 in rebates to the district. Lighting improvements and sensors to measure if a space was occupied brought in $42,000 in rebates to the district alone.
The Kwik Trip partnership netted $22,000 in utility rebates for Energy Star reach-in units and other equipment in the new stores.
North Branch also made some progress on affordable housing and the utility offered over $10,000 to help make energy efficiency happen in these projects. Kelly noted that the tenants then spend less of their income on energy expenses when the project is built with up front efficiencies in mind.
