2/26/2021 3:07:00 PM Township elections
in early March
The township elections are approaching and local political parties are holding county conventions soon.
There are township annual meetings held the second Tuesday of every March and all the townships in Chisago County meet at their town halls the night of March 9. Not all the townships hold elections in March, however, with Lent and Nessel being the exceptions. Their township elections take place in November.
Citizens in Lent and Nessel as well as all the other township citizens, still gather to review township spending and revenue and discuss other important issues at their annual meetings.
As always, anybody who is a candidate is welcome to submit a filing statement with relevant personal information and township issues and policy standards they’d care to share. The filing statements will run next week, in the March 4 edition. E mail to firstname.lastname@example.org
Township election candidates are: Sunrise Township has two supervisor seats expiring and incumbent Mark Osland is running unopposed for his post. Gerald Bjork chose not to file for re-election and Dan Kaiser, John Waldorf and Deborah Kelleher are seeking this post.
Chisago Lake Township has its two incumbents on the ballot, unopposed: Supervisor David Reed and Judy Straub, treasurer.
Franconia Township has one seat on the ballot and incumbent supervisor Owen Kuhnly filed for re-election.
Shafer Township has two filing for one supervisor seat. Incumbent Kurt Nelson filed and is opposed by Mark Stovern. Shafer Township Treasurer Dominique Haller has filed and is unopposed.
Amador Township has two incumbents filing: Lin Strong seeks re-election as supervisor and Bob Linder filed for his treasurer post.
The Chisago County GOP Congressional District convention for the Republican party is March 11 on the electronic Zoom format. Details can be found on the GOP website.
