4/2/2021 12:20:00 PM School sports teams compete at state level; take vaccinations seriously
The ice is finally gone. Thank goodness. It only took inches of rain and wind gusts that rivaled a hurricane to get rid of it. Nonetheless it just gives one a sense that winter is finally over and what a brutally cold end to the winter we had. After that deep temp dip spell, the ice actually went off in almost record time. Bring on the warm weather.
Congratulations to the Wildcat Girls Hockey team for their first win at the State Tournament. Due to Covid restrictions and ice times, the girls will play next, today at the Xcel Energy Center. They will square off with a school named Gentry Academy, a relatively expensive, private tuition school. I hope ‘little old’ Chisago Lakes will prevail and make it to the championship game. We have an awesome team and anything is possible. Good luck Wildcats!
Congratulations to Wildcat junior Claudia Stipe who placed 8th in the all around at the state gymnastics meet. She also had a 5th place finish on the uneven bars. North Branch had two gymnasts compete at state. Senior Paige Bauer placed in the top 10 on the vault and eight grader Dakota Esget had a 4th place on the uneven bars. Great job to all the gymnasts!
Some people are going to be mad at me for this, but we just got back from a trip south of the United States. We had to get out of here for a small vacation and got a screaming deal on a place by the Gulf. Before you get all over me for traveling during a pandemic, we took all the necessary precautions. Once we landed, I was blown away at how well Mexico adheres to Covid-19 restrictions. Absolutely everyone we saw wore masks, even outside. Our resort was empty, I believe it was operating at something like 35 percent. Just the way I like it. Pool was empty, beach was empty. It was a great trip that was completely necessary - you would understand if you read my column last week about home remodeling. Anyway we had a blast doing absolutely nothing. Exactly like a vacation should be.
Speaking of the pandemic - we have had calls about vaccinations and how some people are having trouble signing up or finding vaccination sites. There are sign-ups everywhere for vaccination clinics in our area and as close as the Twin Cities. Start with the Minnesota website https://vaccineconnector.mn.gov/. Takes only a couple of minutes to sign up and they will notify you when your a vaccination is open. I signed up with Thrifty White in Lindstrom and it couldn’t have been easier. If you have a relative or neighbor who doesn’t have a computer, reach out to see if you can help them register.
