5/7/2021 11:47:00 AM A little over half of County is vaccinated
Chisago County Public Health Coordinator Courtney Wehrenberg told the county commissioners this week around 59 percent of the population of 16 years and older have had at least one dose of a covid-19 vaccine. She reports 8,400 vaccination doses have been administered in the county.
The next steps will be to bring shots out to where people work and go to school or congregate. The county offered a clinic out of the Chisago Lake Township Hall for weeks and most recently consolidated vaccination activities in the Wildcat Fitness Center at Chisago Lakes High School.
The official opinion now is that most of the people who were going to get there for vaccination have already made the effort. “Pop-up” locations that 16 and 17 year olds will be attracted to will also be a focus.
The county positivity rate is not quite where the public health guideines say it should be, and Wehrenberg said the goal is to get it back down to five percent or less. Statewide Minnesota is at 47 percent of the population vaccinated, so Chisago County is ahead of the state. The goal is 80 percent of all Minnesotans to be immunized, which Wehrenberg said is the key to stamping down the surge of variant covid-19 strains. The more vaccinations administered the less chance the virus has to mutate, she stated.
