7/30/2021 10:50:00 AM Another event only possible with volunteers, Center City Days on now
If you are still interested in getting vaccinated, Chisago County has you covered. On August 2 at the Health and Human Services building in North Branch, the county will hold a shot clinic from 9am to 1pm. Health and Human Services is located at 6133 402nd Street in North Branch and they do ask that you simply call 651-213-5233 to make an appointment.
Well, the triathlon came and went. Of course we had scorching hot weather for the athletes and the volunteers. They did have around 900 entrants in the race, so people were itching to get back to normal. I drove around taking photos of the race, and it was so good to see the familiar faces at the various water stations and road intersections. These women and men who take time out of their weekend to volunteer in the heat deserve thanks. It would be a lot easier to sit in the sprinkler all day than handing out hundreds of glasses of water and Gatorade.
I can’t speak on how much money this day actually brings into our area, or how much the company that runs the triathlon gives back to the chamber, but I can tell you it’s not enough. This weekend, Center City has its day in the sun. Center City Days is upon us. Yes, it’s a tad bit smaller than say Karl Oskar Days or Ki Chi Saga Days but it doesn’t lack the fun.
Friday kicks off with a community picnic held at Water Tower Park. All are welcome and they are asking to please bring something to share with others. The picnic begins at 6pm. When the picnic ends head down the hill to the fire hall for a night of bingo beginning at 7pm.
Saturday will have a vendor fair next to Pizza Pub and kids games on the lot by the highway that run from 11am to 3pm. There is a smaller version of the triathlon called Grandpa’s Triathlon that includes a kayak paddle, a bike ride and a run. Registration is at 8:45am in the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church’s lower parking lot.
There is a cribbage tournament held at the Grumpy Minnow at 11am. Grab yor friends and try to find the missing lutefisk at 1pm with lues being posted at the event tent every 30 minutes. There is a bag toss tournament under the tent that begins at 3pm.
Kiddie parade will be right before the grand day parade at 5:30 with the big parade beginning at 6pm. The night wraps up with Mojo Monks taking the stage at 8pm.
Sunday, Center City Days welcomes a pancake breakfast held at the fire hall and runs from 8am to noon. The River City Cloggers will entertain under the tent from 11 to noon as well as a classic car show in front of Marine Dock and Lift. The day wraps up with a boat parade and music on the lake. The boat parade will begin at 2pm at Lorens Park and will end at the fishing pier on North Center.
This heat and lack of moisture is really getting to people. Yes we got a dab of rain the other day, but it came with the cost of a bad windstorm. We need a good ol’ soaker to get our spirits up and our grass growing.
Last week we ran a pic of the old ice cream shop in Center City with words all over it and pictures painted on exterior walls. I was “told” by the management that was “art” put there by them and it was definitely not graffiti. We apologize for the obvious mistake.
