tied to fatal crash
A power outage in the Chisago Lakes Area October 2 is being traced back to a fatal single car crash the night before. Reports of loss of power were spread widely throughout Chisago City and the east side of Lindstrom; affecting oxygen machines, garage doors, an apartment building elevator, fire and burglary alarm systems and more while generating dozens of calls for police service.
The crash was reported about 10:45 p.m. October 1.
A passer-by noticed a car in the ditch up against a power pole, near the North Meadows neighborhood, west of County Road 14 on the Stacy Road. Authorities found a man in the vehicle, with no pulse. There were no papers on him, so it took a little while to identify the victim as Matthew Lindberg, 30, of Linwood Township.
State Patrol is assisting in evaluating road conditions and cause of the crash, which appeared to have happened as the car was eastbound. Wyoming Police and sheriff’s patrol also were at the scene.
Police Chief Schlumbohm said Lakes Area Police were advised that the crash set in motion an electrical short, and tripped a circuit breaker, which later affected power.
Xcel replaced insulators and re-energized lines.
