Gallon of gas is how much? Yikes!

I hope everyone had a great Fathers Day on Sunday.  Hopefully you celebrated it on Saturday like we did before the white-hot heat wave hit us.  We had our immediate family up and spent the day on the water and had a wonderful time.  Happy belated Fathers Day to all our dad readers.  My dad would have been 78-years-old.  I know we all age, but when you lose a parent, at least for me, I picture them at the age when they passed away.  In an odd way, I kind of enjoy thinking of John and Eileen at the age I last saw them.  Even if it is getting to be the same age as me.

I wrote about this a week or two ago, but wanted to remind you the community meal held at Zion Church is once again taking place.  The meals are held every Monday beginning at 4pm in the fellowship hall at Chisago City’s Zion Lutheran Church.  The meal is put on by volunteers that want the community to come together and enjoy a great meal and even better conversations.  I have been lucky enough to help serve many of the meals and let me tell you, it is an absolutely stress-free enjoyable experience.  Come on out, you will be glad you did.

This paying $55 and getting a half tank full of gas, is getting quite old.  We have seen super-high gas prices in the past, but for some reason this time stings more than the other times.  Maybe it’s my piece of junk truck and its poor gas mileage, or maybe I am becoming a miser, but I used to put in a full tank of gas without blinking and now I find myself saying “Well, really where am I planning on driving this week?” Man I hope this economy starts its recovery soon.

Chisago City Farmers Market is looking for local musicians.  They try to always feature live music every Friday at the markets.  This year they are looking for new talent to showcase to the public.  The market runs from 2-6pm so your night will still be young. You are encouraged to contact the city to register.  Looking forward to seeing some new acts as well as some of the regulars.  The city’s phone number is 651-257-7641.

This is our last week before we officially stop sending papers out to readers who have yet to pay for their subscriptions.  If you received a blue card in the mail from us and have put-off sending. it in, I would urge you to.  With the postage rates rising, we will be forced to raise the cost of a year’s subscription.  This is you chance to get in at a lower rate.  Our in-county is $49 and if you reside out of Chisago County, the rate is $51.50 for a year.  Again I thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading!!

As the highschool athletics just wrapped up for the year, we had three golfers that had a nice showing at state.  Olivia Weyenberg of North Branch, Emily Erickson of Lindstrom and Tyler Minke from North Branch all competed at the state golf tournament.  Tyler finished 33rd in state, which doesn’t sound all that great but that means he was the 33rd best golfer in Minnesota - and there are a ton of boys that go out for golf in Minnesota.  I wish I was that good! Great job Tyler, Olivia and Emily.
