Well the Vikings’ win over Green Bay had everyone in good spirits around here. Who knows how the year will shake out, but it was priceless watching the opponent’s quarterback sulk on multiple occasions.
Speaking of good moods, there are a couple of events this weekend to keep you in good spirits. Shafer Days kicks off their 100th year this Friday. They would love nothing more than to have you, your friends and your families join them in celebrating this momentous occasion.
Friday at the fire hall, there is family bingo that runs from 6 to 9pm. Food and beverages including beer will be available for purchase.
Both the Shafer Saloon and Ole’s Crossroads will have live music on Friday and they both begin at 8pm.
Saturday back at the fire hall, you are invited to the annual pancake breakfast that begins at 7am.
Clues for the missing clog will be posted at 9am at City Hall and the fire hall. They are posted every hour until found. All day Saturday you can take part in a walking tour through Shafer.
There is a massive car show on mainstreet that starts at 10am.
At 12:30pm, the Shafer bank robbery re-enactment takes place in downtown.
The Shafer Days Parade begins at 4pm and winds its way through town.
We have a nice spread in this paper that details all of the happenings at Shafer Days.
Also this Sunday the very popular Almelund Apple Festival takes place. The event runs from 11-4pm and is held in downtown Almelund. You will be treated to so many wonderful treats; including all things apple, apple desserts, apple sausages, apple butter... the list goes on and on.
There is a great museum on the property filled with some super neat artifacts. There is a cinema playing movies in an old log cabin, there is a petting zoo and old time arts and crafts for the kids.
There is an antique car show as well as a silent auction. If you have been hankering for some fresh apples, there are multiple vendors selling this year’s most popular types.
The majority of the time the Apple Festival falls right during a Vikings game, this year the Vikings play Monday night, so head on out.
