What a great way to end summer, Kids Outerwear Fair next week

Last weekend Shafer held its 100 year celebration of Shafer Days.  Congratulations to the city and the residents for a great celebration.  As always, the weather can be a bit dicey in mid-September but the clouds cleared and made for a beautiful weekend.

We also had a chance to take in one of our favorite festivals on Sunday. We went to Apple Fest in Almelund and it didn’t disappoint.  Crowds were huge, I am guessing the Vikings playing on Monday certainly helped. We had some amazing desserts and tried a new flavor of apple that is easily a new favorite in our house.
Thanks to the organizers of Shafer Days and Apple Fest for a great weekend!

As I write this we are experiencing what many here at the Press are calling the last day of summer.  As of Wednesday the temps are supposed to plummet which is much anticipated in our household.  We have had tarps on our roof since the May 9 storm and the tarps have covered our roof vents meaning there is nowhere for hot air to go out of our house.  I am certain it has ruined our ac unit which never shut off this summer.  So a respite from the hot air is much needed even if it may be too late on the pocketbook as a new central air unit is now on the horizon.

Speaking of pending cooler temperatures, the annual  Trinity Outerwear Fair is coming next week.  The Outerwear Fair is made up of a wonderful group of volunteers who have collected winter clothing for kids of all ages. The reason is to donate to those who can not afford cold weather clothing for their children this year.  I have been taking pictures and dealing with this group since my first years here at the Press.  They are some of the most caring people I have ever come in contact with. They ask no questions, they are simply there to help local families make it through the winter.

The distribution takes place at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lindstrom, Thursday September 29 from 3 to 7 p.m., and again September 30 from 3 to 7 p.m. They then finish up with a Saturday distribution on October 1 from 9 a.m. to noon.  If you have questions please call the church office at 651-257-5129.

Remember, the Monday evening free meals are back once again at Zion Lutheran Church in Chisago City.  The meals run from 4-6 p.m. Mondays in the fellowship hall.
As always they are always in need of volunteers to help serve. Call 651-775-3367 to volunteer.
