District 1 recount doesn't change results much

The ballots were recounted in the race for County Board District 1 Nov 23, when a small enough gap between the two totals qualified under rules allowing for a public-funded process.

County Auditor/Treasurer Bridgitte Konrad said the results were gone over a second time post recount, Nov 28 and canvassing officials name Jim Swenson the victor. The new County Board seat he will hold in 2023 is made up of three precincts and covers the area of North Branch.

The total in precinct B was unchanged from the general balloting counts to the recount numbers. Swenson stayed at 360 and Tim MacMillan had 361.

In Precinct A review of ballots both candidates picked up one— Swenson had 950 and after the recount he had 951.  MacMillan had 874 and after the recount it was 875.

Precinct C also gave each candidate one more ballot in the recount with Swenson ending up at 590 and MacMillan at 648.

The recount is a public process and was done in the Government Center in Center City, Room 150B by election officials— who provided their services under independent observation.
